Do You know if you are suffering from procrastination?

Hi, nice to see you again and thanks for dropping by, my name is Brian Jowers and welcome to my journey.

Each week I will talk about a topic that has bothered / encouraged or is just interestering, this week we will look at procrastination.

So, what is the definition of Procrastination?

From Wikipedia:

Procrastination (from latin’s “procrastinare”, that translates in to : the prefix pro-, ‘forward’, and suffix -crastinus, ’till next day’ from cras, ‘tomorrow’ ) is the avoidance of doing a task that needs to be accomplished.Sometimes, procrastination takes place until the “last minute” before a deadline.

From Cambridge English Dictionary

the act of delaying something that must be done, often because it is unpleasant or boring:

(Definition of “procrastination” from the Cambridge Advanced Learner’s Dictionary & Thesaurus © Cambridge University Press)

I think the definition is actually a combination of the two. Sure, some tasks get put off until the last minute, but that assumes that there is a deadline. And it is certainly true that the boring stuff will get put off for as long as possible, until it has to be done.

How does Procrastination affect you:

BUT, when you are starting out you are responsible for setting up your own business

  • There is so much to learn and do
  • It is easy to caught up doing what you like to do
  • or what you find easy
  • or what you want to do

Then it hit me,I had been working away for quite some time but I realised that I was not going forward that some tasks must be done but I was making excuses to myself.

I can’t do this because I need to do that.

I have to learn about this stuff before I can do that.

I found I was in a never ending circle of excuses that meant I was getting no where and had nothing done.

Do not get it confused with the CBA effect, that is just lazyness, can’t be bothered to get off your ass.

What does it do to your business?

Are the little green men holding you back?

In short it takes away your effeviteness, it is worse than spinning your wheels and going nowhere.

You are not being effective, you realise that you are just going through the motions.

You may look busy but……..

Procrastination can be because of fear of not succeeding, or fear of actually succeeding and what you have to do next.

In short it is detremental to the success of your business.

I will return to this topic again soon, meanwhile…..

How has Procrastination affected You?

How/When did you become aware of it?

How did you over come, get your business advancing?

I would love to know how you overcame it, please let me know in the comments box below.

Until next week..
